About the Center

Our professional staff includes child, adolescent & adult psychiatrists, learning consultants, behavior and psychotherapists, and organizational consultants.

Our clinical services include diagnostic evaluations, individual, group and family therapy, medication assessments & monitoring, educational evaluations, social skills groups, behavior modification programs, effective parent training, academic and organizational support, school consultations and ADHD coaching.

Pediatric & Adolescent Psychiatry Associates and ADHD Center of Northern New Jersey were founded by Merritt Hubsher, MD, a board certified child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist who felt that the traditional approach to treating children with emotional, behavioral and academic difficulties did not meet their needs. Children would see a therapist in one location, a psychiatrist for an evaluation or medication in yet another location, a learning consultant somewhere else, and family therapy or parent coaching in still another setting. It was all too fragmented, and there was rarely any coordination of the child’s treatment by the various professionals since communication among them rarely took place. As a result, the child’s treatment would be disjointed, and would go on in different directions, with no coordination.

So Dr. Hubsher decided to build a “child therapy Center”, a place where treatment could be offered by all the different professionals in one location, working together, putting together a coordinated plan for each child or adolescent, or adult, that made sense and could really help the child and his family, or the adult. And so Pediatric & Adolescent Psychiatry Associates and ADHD Center of Northern New Jersey were born!

The concept of an all-inclusive child & adolescent therapy center was so appreciated by the parents and families we saw that we decided to expand our services further in order to help more children. We therefore developed ADHD, Mood & Behavior Center as an 'umbrella' Center under which exist additional 'Specialty Centers'. These include Pediatric & Adolescent Psychiatry Associates and ADHD Center of Northern New Jersey, as well as ACHIEVE Learning Center, Brain Development Center, Autism Spectrum Center and Eating Disorder Center. These 'Specialty Centers' allow us to help many more children and adolescents with a greater variety of difficulties in a comprehensive and truly helpful manner.

Medical Staff

Merritt Hubsher, MD is the founder of Pediatric & Adolescent Psychiatry Associates and ADHD Center of Northern New Jersey. Dr. Hubsher is board certified in Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry.

Dr. Hubsher specializes in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD, ADHD) and mood disorders, such as Depression, Bipolar Disorder and Anxiety Disorders, as well as Pervasive Developmental Disorders, such as Autism and Asperger’s Disorder.

He received his medical degree at Downstate Medical Center in New York. He did his residency training at New York University Medical Center in Psychiatry, where he also completed his fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr. Hubsher has appeared on television and radio, and lectures all over the state of New Jersey to school teachers, guidance counselors, therapists and parent groups, as well as other psychiatrists, teaching the hallmarks of childhood mental health, behavioral and academic conditions, in order to increase awareness, and thereby help children to get the help that is available, from which they can benefit greatly.
